Goodreads Summary:
A debut novel about a teenage girl who discovers the new boy next door is a harbinger of death, and who must find a way to survive in a town destined for tragedy.

A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full. Harbingers settle in places where tragedy is about to strike, then feed on the energy of the dying. Then, they leave. Off to the next doomed place. No one wants a family of harbingers of death as neighbors, but that’s exactly what seventeen-year-old Angie Dovage gets when Reece Fernandez moves in next door.

Angie knows the mysterious boy is more than he appears, but can’t imagine that his presence heralds a tragedy that will devastate her small community. But her fears run deeper than Reece’s inevitable departure, because where harbingers of death go, grotesque, ruined creatures called Beekeepers follow. And where Beekeepers go, fear and chaos and death follows.

Angie wants to protect everyone she cares about, but stopping the Beekeepers involves a choice that will claim her life or Reece’s soul. She will learn the price of both.

I love that cover and how well it goes with the synopsis! Dying to read this one!!

Event Recap: Jenny Han Signing

Jenny Han Signing banner

Two weeks ago Jenny Han came to Vancouver as part of her Always and Forever Lara Jean book tour. I was fortunate enough to have gotten to meet her!

Waiting for Jenny Han~I arrived about two hours before the signing and the first row of the seats was already filled up. I hadn't eaten at that point so I went to grab a quick dinner. When I made it back, I was able to snatch a seat in the fourth row. Talk about popular! When it was almost time for Jenny Han to come out, all the seats were filled and a ton of people were standing around the area.

Jenny Han in Vancouver!
(We were asked for our receipt since we needed to have purchased a copy of Always and Forever Lara Jean to be eligible for the signing. I just wanted to point out that the event details didn't say anything about this. While this didn't affect me since I had a copy of my receipt on my phone, it did cause panic with the girls who were sitting beside me. Thankfully most people were able to find their proof of purchase(?) so the event started without a hitch!)

We look happy but not sure what we were talking about lol...
Jenny Han was introduced and she talked a bit about her book and the stops she's made on her book tour. Then she answered some questions from the audience and the signing started shortly after that. Omg it was so nerve-wrecking waiting for my turn. I had no idea what I was going to say to her. I have no idea what I said but I'm pretty sure I blubbered my way through haha. I also gave her a small box of timbits as a treat. I heard she loves cookies so I figured timbits are sort of the Canadian equivalent. She was super nice!

Jenny Han and I <3
Jenny Han is lovely and it was so nice to meet her <3

Big thank you to the staff at Chapters Metrotown who did a great job at managing the signing and taking photos for the fans!!

Goodreads Summary:
A humorous novel about a cupcake shop owner with a physical ailment that's kept her from having sex for two years, and the desperate antics that ensue as she tries to overcome it.

Having sex wasn't a big priority while Kat Carmichael's successful cupcake shop was taking off. But when she realizes that it's been nearly two years since she and her boyfriend, Ryan, have been intimate, she makes a pact to break her dry spell-and cure her vaginismus, a muscular condition that can make sex physically impossible.

Out of guilt, Kat calls for a break in her relationship with Ryan, so that he can see other people while she attempts to fix the issue on her own. She throws herself into physical therapy, but soon discovers her solo mission is more complicated than she anticipated. Fortunately, Ben Cleary, the shop's best (looking) customer, is also a physical therapist, and volunteers to help out.

As time goes on, however, the boundaries Ben and Kat have set between friendship and love quickly become blurred, leaving her more confused than ever about what to hang on to and what to let go.

This one's for a more adult audience. I'm super curious about it. And cupcakes!

Review: Cold Summer by Gwen Cole

Cold Summer by Gwen ColeCold Summer
by Gwen Cole
May 2, 2017
322 pages

Goodreads Summary:
Today, he’s a high school dropout with no future.
Tomorrow, he’s a soldier in World War II.

Kale Jackson has spent years trying to control his time-traveling ability but hasn’t had much luck. One day he lives in 1945, fighting in the war as a sharpshooter and helplessly watching soldiers—friends—die. Then the next day, he’s back in the present, where WWII has bled into his modern life in the form of PTSD, straining his relationship with his father and the few friends he has left. Every day it becomes harder to hide his battle wounds, both physical and mental, from the past.

When the ex-girl-next-door, Harper, moves back to town, thoughts of what could be if only he had a normal life begin to haunt him. Harper reminds him of the person he was before the PTSD, which helps anchor him to the present. With practice, maybe Kale could remain in the present permanently and never step foot on a battlefield again. Maybe he can have the normal life he craves.

But then Harper finds Kale’s name in a historical article—and he’s listed as a casualty of the war. Kale knows now that he must learn to control his time-traveling ability to save himself and his chance at a life with Harper. Otherwise, he’ll be killed in a time where he doesn’t belong by a bullet that was never meant for him.

Hello everyone! Last week I attended the TeensRead Preview event hosted by Raincoast Books. I'm always super excited for this event! Big thank you goes out to the Raincoast ladies for the invite and the time they put into organizing the event <3

In my excitement, I got to the library super early lol. But while waiting, I met Hollie from Hollie Ohs Book Reviews and we talked about books for a bit. It was really nice to meet another local booklover :)
I also got to meet guest author Jennifer Honeybourn. Her upcoming debut  is called Wesley James Ruined My Life. I actually read the first few chapters of this book when it was still a manuscript on the Swoon Reads website. It had a different title back then but I remember really liking it and hoping it would get published so big congrats to Jennifer!

It was fun taking pictures but I belatedly realized I don't have any of them lol... Just as well, since my face was all flushed I probably don't look very good haha...

Raincoast Books spoils us!

Thank you so much again to the Raincoast team for hosting such a great event. I'm not a very talkative person but it was fun to meet other book lovers and listen to the discussions!
