Goodreads Summary:
SPELLCASTER is an intense enemies-to-lovers romantasy with steamy heat, magical creatures, fast pacing, and stakes that will keep you hooked. Dive into a world where love is as dangerous as power—and nothing is ever as it seems.
Welcome to Weatherstone College…
Don’t walk the halls late at night.
Don’t disturb the ancient magic.
And don’t, under any circumstances, ever trust a spellcaster.
When my magic bloomed at twenty-two, the last thing I expected was to receive an acceptance letter to the most prestigious witch college in the world. It’s not that I don’t have magic. It’s just…unpredictable. But with Weatherstone a part of my family legacy, I’m determined to live up to their expectations.
A task that’s almost derailed on my very first day when I come face-to-face with Logan Kingston, the son of my father’s enemy. I’m warned to avoid the powerful spellcaster at all costs, but apparently Logan did not receive the same memo. The more time I spend around him, the more I crave his unsettling attention, and as hate flirts with obsession, I’m left wondering if there’s another side to the decades-old feud between our fathers.
On top of that, Weatherstone is not at all like I expected. Built on the ancient blood of necromancers and battle, the magic here is as unpredictable as mine, and I sense a dark energy stalking my footsteps. When a monster attacks me, I have no choice but to turn to the strongest warlock in our school: Logan.
After all, to fight a monster, I’ll need a monster.
Review
After reading the synopsis for Spellcaster, I was confident I’d enjoy the story and I couldn’t have been more accurate~ The general plot was a tad predictable but the setting and the characters were awesome.
Spellcaster was a really easy book to read. The grim atmosphere, mysterious characters and elemental magic gripped me. I kept turning the pages looking for more. The academic setting was my favourite. Whether it was walking down the halls of the school or attending the college classes, I felt the excitement alongside the new students.
Spellcaster introduced many confounding but also intriguing relationships. At the center is Paisley and Logan. Given their family’s history, their romance was a fitting slow burn. Nothing too explicit happens but the sexual tension between them was undeniable. With their chemistry, I look forward to Paisley and Logan exploring their ties(?) and igniting even more sparks!
The Hallistar family was a lovable bunch. Their dynamic was endearing- fiercely protective of each other. Instinctively they shielded their youngest (Paisley) in any way they could. I have a feeling that what little we got to know of the parents and the older siblings was just the tip of the iceberg. Give me more!
Despite a few uneventful parts of the story, Spellcaster was overall a fun read. I was hoping for more explanations but since this is looking like a series, it made sense to dole out bits of information over each book. With that baffling ending, I need the next book asap!
oooh nice! This was one I have been eyeing for months with just the cover and description! It sounds like my kind of read and I am so happy to hear you say you enjoyed it! Makes me feel confident about my choices! Lol. Great review!
