Goodreads Summary:
It’s 27 Dresses meets Sonya Lalli’s The Matchmaker’s List in this delightful romcom where she doesn’t believe in love…he’s determined to prove her wrong -- by being her matchmaker!

Kimiko Halim thinks happy endings only exist in fairy tales. But her late grandmother’s will specifies settling down as a condition to inherit her yarn store, and the family’s legacy is the only thing that matters. Kim’s plan is find a guy, date him until the store is hers, then gently uncouple from the poor, unsuspecting victim.

But the clock is ticking, and her dates have been more frogs than princes. When Rob Carmichael, a perpetual groomsman and self-proclaimed proponent of happily-ever-afters, overhears Kim’s cynical view of love, he’s baffled. Having been surrounded by happy relationships all his life, Rob convinces her that he can find her a soulmate in one of the next five weddings he’s going to.

What can possibly go wrong?

Review

How to Find a Guy in Five Weddings was humorous and heartwarming. The variety of characters (aka the potential partners) made for some entertaining interactions. Some were sweet while others were plain outrageous.

I really liked the long chapter titles in How to Find a Guy in Five Weddings. They hinted at what was to come with a comedic effect. As much as the story was centered on romance, it was also about family/found family. Complicated family dynamics were explored. Some family members were simply supportive while others pushed boundaries. It was a delicate balance that I think the author did well on. Kim and Rob’s close friends provided some great commentary and advices. Goofy and funny as hell, they were awesome cheerleaders.

In How to Find a Guy in Five Weddings, Kim really put herself out there meeting stranger after stranger. Even though she had an ulterior motive (meeting the term of her grandmother’s will), she gave each guy a fair shot and treated them genuinely. Kim was such a brave girl. Her heart was in the right place even if it resulted in Rob walking away when he found out. I certainly didn’t mind the mutual pining and grand gestures near the end ;)

Right from the start, Kim and Rob clicked. I loved how natural every interaction between them was. Both were their truest selves in front of each other. Kim especially was an affirming presence for Rob. “Success looks different for everyone, and there are no right or wrong ways to define it.” (eARC, Loc 2565) And Rob encouraged Kim in any way he could. They were just so good together!

How to Find a Guy in Five Weddings had a little bit of everything I enjoy in a contemporary romance- family, spectacle and spice. Kim’s dating experiences were too funny and most memorable ;)
