Goodreads Summary:
Charlotte Charlie Donovan knows exactly what she wants for Christmas: Teo Ortiz. He s the school s star athlete, in the National Honor Society, invited to every party, contributes to the school paper (where Charlie is co-editor), and is about to be featured as One to Watch in a teen magazine basically, he's exactly the type of guy Charlie s meant to be with. The only problem he barely knows she exists.

But Charlie is determined to be Teo's date to the Christmas ball. And she has a plan: To rig the paper s Secret Santa so that she can win his heart with five perfect gifts. But to do that she needs help. Enter J.D. Ortiz Teo s cousin, and possibly the most annoying person on the planet. He s easy going, laid back, unorganized, spontaneous, and makes a joke out of everything the exact opposite of Charlie (and Teo). But he s willing to provide insight into what Teo wants, so she s stuck with him.

Yet, the more time Charlie spends with J.D., the more she starts to wonder: Does she really know what, or rather who, she wants for Christmas?

Review

There's nothing like a quick and warm read to get you into a festive mood! My New Crush Gave to Me was fun in all the ways I expected since I had the pleasure of reading the author's debut novel.

Not only does the cover scream winter holidays but the Christmas activities in the book gave all the festive feels. Furthermore the caroling and Secret Santa games paved the way to a cutesy love story. It was slow burn and super adorable to watch the characters realize their feelings.

I love the story but I will confess in the beginning I was extremely irritated with Charlie. I'm a planner myself so I understood how she felt like she was on the right path following her plan, however, as the story went on, it was painfully obvious Charlie should reconsider her choices. More often than not she found herself wavering from her plan in addition to having to convince herself of what she wants. It took her long enough but I was so relieved to see she wasn't completely ignorant of her feelings.

J.D. Ortiz. I will remember that name. J.D. is one of the sweetest boys I've ever met in books. He acts all casual and clownish when really he's perceptive and smart. Did I mention he's sweet as hell? For all the reasons Charlie disliked J.D. for he really fit the bill in what she looked for in a boyfriend.

I can't talk about My New Crush Gave to Me without praising Charlie's best friend. Morgan is the best of best friends. She doesn't push Charlie instead gave her all the quiet support and strength she could. Even busy with her own life Morgan never failed to be on Charlie's side.

Fast and easy, My New Crush Gave to Me is the perfect story for this holiday season. Just imagine sitting by the fireplace sipping on a mug of hot chocolate with this cozy read in hand ;)
