Goodreads Summary:
Trouble is haunting Cassidy Blake . . . even more than usual.

She (plus her ghost best friend, Jacob, of course) are in Paris, where Cass's parents are filming their TV show about the world's most haunted cities. Sure, it's fun eating croissants and seeing the Eiffel Tower, but there's true ghostly danger lurking beneath Paris, in the creepy underground Catacombs.

When Cass accidentally awakens a frighteningly strong spirit, she must rely on her still-growing skills as a ghosthunter -- and turn to friends both old and new to help her unravel a mystery. But time is running out, and the spirit is only growing stronger.

And if Cass fails, the force she's unleashed could haunt the city forever.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Victoria Schwab returns to the spooky and heart-pounding world of City of Ghosts, delivering thrilling new adventures and an unforgettable spin on friendship. (Because sometimes, even psychic ghost best friends have secrets. . .)

Review

I'm not a huge middle grade reader but I really enjoyed City of Ghosts, the first book in the Cassidy Blake series. And when it's by a favourite author I'll never not try! Tunnel of Bones is an excellent followup.

This time around trouble aka the dead find Cassidy in Paris with her parents and of course, her cranky kitty Grim. I don't love scary stories but the storytelling in Tunnel of Bones had my attention. I ended up really enjoying the history and all the sites Cassidy and her parents visited. If I'm ever in Paris I'd definitely look them up.

After the events of City of Ghosts, Cassidy has a better understanding of her abilities and I was really happy to see her handle it well in this sequel. She's more resourceful and clever. Still a danger to herself (and others) but entertaining to follow around.

Now, she couldn't have been as successful without her ghost bestie Jacob. I was impressed with their partnership. They were quite in tune with each other and with it came efficiency. Tunnel of Bones we learn about Jacob's past (his death). My curiosity is definitely peaked to see how this will impact Cassidy and the background storyline.

I also loved that Cassidy makes a new friend in each city. In City of Ghosts she met Lara and now in Tunnel of Bones a kid named Adele proves to be more helpful than any book can be. Keep those friendships coming!!

This middle grade series has been such a blast to read. A ghostly adventure with just the right amount of intrigue and spookiness. I look forward to seeing where Victoria Schwab takes Cassidy Blake (and us) next.
