Goodreads Summary:
How do you kill a god?
As her father's chosen heir, eighteen-year-old Rasmira has trained her whole life to become a warrior and lead her village. But when her coming-of-age trial is sabotaged and she fails the test, her father banishes her to the monster-filled wilderness with an impossible quest: To win back her honor, she must kill the oppressive god who claims tribute from the villages each year—or die trying.
Review
Reading Warrior of the Wild, I am once again reminded of why I love Tricia Levenseller. She delivers the best stories- full of excitement and encouragements. And there's always a pulse-pounding romance that's beautifully incorporated into the plot.
What I Liked:
- the story was quite the educational journey
- lots of mature growth in the characters
- many cleverly scattered hints
- a wonderful build up to the twist reveal
- brave, smart and determined Rasmira
- watching Rasmira putting her skills to good use
- the monster slaying was nerve-wracking but so thrilling
- a reluctant alliance that turns into a delightful friendship
- the soft slow burn romance between Rasmira and Soren
- Soren giving Rasmira space that she asked for
- teamwork all the way
- the story fully demonstrated that actions have consequences
The Not So Much:
- the deception in the beginning (though I do understand its necessity)
"But I also know that true strength comes from being willing to fail in order to progress." (p. 174)
