Goodreads Summary:
A seductively twisted romance about loyalty, fate, the lengths we go to hide the darkest parts of ourselves . . . and the people who love those parts most of all.
Wyatt Westlock has one plan for the farmhouse she's just inherited -- to burn it to the ground. But during her final walkthrough of her childhood home, she makes a shocking discovery in the basement -- Peter, the boy she once considered her best friend, strung up in chains and left for dead.
Unbeknownst to Wyatt, Peter has suffered hundreds of ritualistic deaths on her family's property. Semi-immortal, Peter never remains dead for long, but he can't really live, either. Not while he's bound to the farm, locked in a cycle of grisly deaths and painful rebirths. There's only one way for him to break free. He needs to end the Westlock line.
He needs to kill Wyatt.
With Wyatt's parents gone, the spells protecting the property have begun to unravel, and dark, ancient forces gather in the nearby forest. The only way for Wyatt to repair the wards is to work with Peter -- the one person who knows how to harness her volatile magic. But how can she trust a boy who's sworn an oath to destroy her? When the past turns up to haunt them in the most unexpected way, they are forced to rely on one another to survive, or else tear each other apart.
Review
I am usually not one for spooky reads but once in a while my interested is peaked. I always end up enjoying the books my instinct pick out and Your Blood, My Bones is the latest hit!
Just reading the title and looking at the cover art had me excited to crack open Your Blood, My Bones. The writing is extremely atmospheric. I felt every sinister smile and moving shadow. A lot of times, I wasn't sure if I could trust what the characters were seeing and saying. I definitely stayed vigilant while reading.
From the regretful tone to the mournful characters, Your Blood, My Bones is a most bittersweet story. Wyatt, Peter and James's complex relationship moved me. At such a young age, they already had so much history. I wanted them to make up and survive but the story proved unpredictable. Some twists I did not coming- the scheming adults made my blood boil but James staying alive(?) comforted me.
I usually love a happy ending and while Your Blood, My Bones doesn't exactly have that, it does have an ending that fits the story. I want to read more of Kelly Andrew's atmospheric writing and visit more of her haunting worlds!
OOh nice! I read this one a month or two ago and enjoyed it as well! Atmospheric is good choice. It did get a little puzzling at times but the mystery intrigued me! Glad you enjoyed it too!
ReplyDeleteYes! It was so intriguing I ended up not minding the puzzling parts XD
