Goodreads Summary:
For fans of Lisa Kleypas and Sarah MacLean, Rachel Griffiths’s latest historical romance is a sexy, laugh-out-loud romp that’s The Bachelorette set in Regency England with shades of Bridgerton.

Lady Charlotte Louisa Aveton knows all of London’s rules, and better yet, knows how to break them. But when she takes it too far and stumbles into a serious scandal, she knows only one thing will save her—marriage, as soon as possible.

With only one summer to pick a husband, Charlotte invites all of England’s most eligible bachelors to an extravagant summer retreat at a country manor house. There’s a brooding artist, a wickedly handsome Russian prince, and one of the richest men in all of Europe...so why do her eyes keep sliding over to the Duke of Warrick, the only man who’s ever come close to breaking her heart?

Does Charlotte’s summer of suitors have any room for second chances?

Review

With humour and heart in equal measures, Just for the Season was instantly a charming read! Whether the characters were plotting romances or romantically plotting, the fun was endless. I couldn’t get enough of their shenanigans ;)

Charlotte is not your average society girl. She was very capable and used her good senses to achieve her dream and help those she loves. Her intelligence also led to a great many mischievous moments- “…could it be that you are in dire need of nonsense in your life, while I could do with practice at being serious?” (eARC, Loc 886) While Charlotte was a formidable opponent, Wolfgang held his own against her.

Wolfgang was a broody yet sensible love interest. For a man of his size and caliber, he was remarkably attuned to the little details. He understood Charlotte like nobody else. While I wasn’t a fan of their big misunderstanding, it led to some great banter and sparks. Wolfgang was a man of few words but they were almost always the right words. “…what was more effective in conversation, a killing retort or the silence after.” (eARC, Loc 2074) Some of the things he said to Charlotte were so swoon-worthy.

Just for the Season made me laugh again and again. I loved the natural humour that just flowed in the writing. “Besides, one doesn’t make a match by chaperoning too carefully.” (eARC, Loc 1234) Charlotte’s Gran and the Marby girls (even their mother) were an absolute delight. They meddled so much- sometimes discreetly, sometimes not but none of it ever felt stifling. Everything was in good conscience and for a wee bit of harmless fun. Gran knew what she was doing ;) “…because happiness blew in and out on the breeze but true contentment lived inside, safe and protected.” (eARC, Loc 2025).

Sharp and uproariously funny, Just for the Season couldn’t have been a more romantic read. Historical romances lovers, don’t sleep on Rachel Griffiths’s books!!
