Review: The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

I went on a Sarah Dessen binge-read before I started blogging and really enjoyed most of her books. Today I wanted to share the one book that I actually wrote a review on :P

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen The Truth About Forever
by Sarah Dessen
May 11, 2004
374 pages

Goodreads Summary:
A long, hot summer...

That's what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy's father.

But sometimes, unexpected things can happen—things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister's project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. Things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl's world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to question her sheltered life.

Is it really always better to be safe than sorry?

Review

This book gave me so many different feels that it's hard for me to organize my thoughts and put them into words. I'm pretty sure it's my favourite Sarah Dessen book so far though!

The way Macy lost her dad was unimaginable. He was taken from her so suddenly and so quickly that it numbs her. She wasn't really "living" her life rather just going through the motion of life. It leads her to a safe and predictable choice in boyfriend. His name is Jason and I'm sorry to say this but ewww, what a bad boyfriend he was.

I really enjoyed how Macy questioned the idea of forever. What is forever? It's such a legit question to ask even if, to me, there is no answer to it. You just have to live on to find your own definition. As Macy led her zombie life, I really wanted to yell at her that life is too short to waste away like that. Thankfully she figures it out when she meets the Wish Catering crew. Or should I say WES.

I love Wes. He's gorgeous yet troubled with a past which only makes him all the more realistic and approachable. He is a thousand times more attractive than some brainiac who defines your relationship based on what he wants to get out of it in the future. I mean, seriously? Yuck!

Delia's way of thinking that things happen for a reason was interesting. I totally agree with her. Some things are just meant to be. Like when Wes went to the library to ask Macy a question that led to her quitting the library job and running away with him. I bet he was there because he knew Jason was coming and he wanted to take her away (from Jason). The way Macy quit the library job was kick ass too! I was grinning through that part!

One thing I didn't enjoy about The Truth About Forever was how controlling and stubborn Macy's mom was. It was just a huge fat NO for me.

Overall, the story was full of meaning. I just wish there were more Wes and Macy scenes. I felt like I was finally getting to see them together and bang, the book was over. I want to see couple Macy and Wes!
