Goodreads Summary:
For as long as Alice can remember, she has dreamed of Max. Together they have traveled the world and fallen deliriously, hopelessly in love. Max is the boy of her dreams—and only her dreams. Because he doesn’t exist.
But when Alice walks into class on her first day at a new school, there he is. It turns out, though, that Real Max is nothing like Dream Max, and getting to know each other in reality isn’t as perfect as Alice always hoped.
When their dreams start to bleed dangerously into their waking hours, the pair realize that they might have to put an end to a lifetime of dreaming about each other. But when you fall in love in your dreams, can reality ever be enough?
Whimsical, romantic and utterly original, Lucy Keating’s debut novel will win readers’ hearts.

Interview
1. First off, how did you come up with the concept for Dreamology?
I've spent my entire life walking, talking, and having crazy dreams. And I've spent my entire professional life working in teen publishing and television developing unique female leads. Eventually I just thought, what if your dreams were the thing that made you special? I'd also had occasional dreams about guys I'd dated or loved, as though we were still dating, and I'd wake up and feel so strange. Even if that guy and I had broken up years ago, even if I hardly thought of him at all, in my dreams it all felt so real. There was a certain heartache in that. And then I realized that dreams and love have a few things in common. When you dream and when you are in love, you behave erratically, do things you normally never would. And when it's all over, in both cases, you sometimes wonder...did all that even happen?
2. Was it hard to weave the dream world with the real world?
I am often told that I view the world in a kind of a strange, humorous way, so it was actually pretty easy to weave these strange dream moments into reality! Though I suppose there were a few moments, like with the winking swan in the public garden, where I knew I wanted that to happen, but it kept feeling a bit hokey every time. Still not totally sure I nailed that scene ;) But this book definitely requires a pretty sincere suspension of disbelief.
3. Dreams are always up for interpretation. How would you define what dreams are?
I lot of people stress about the nuanced or secret messages of dreams. Your tooth fell out! You're stressed about money. I think dreams are pretty self explanatory, even if they tell us things in weird ways. I am more interested in why we dream at all. That it's basically a biological necessity for our brains to express themselves while we're at rest. Sometimes I say "Sleep is where my crazy comes out."
4. Have you always known how Dreamology would end?
I always did. There were VERY brief moments when I was swayed by a particular character and wondered if I should make some changes based on that, but I knew what I wanted the message to be. Love is not always a perfect fantasy. People are real, they can be complicated, and while you do not have to love every single piece of them, you have to love them as a whole. Ups and downs, good times and bad. Max and Alice only knew the good sides, and they had to get to know their real selves.
5. Do you remember the last dream you had? Can you share it with us?
I will share a stress dream I have pretty frequently. In my real life, I have a background in singing and songwriting. I played a lot in high school and college and these days I often perform at family events and friends weddings and the occasional backyard party. In this stressful dream I get onstage to sing and am told either that the song has changed, or the lyrics in front of me have run off the page, or I just can't remember the words I memorized. So I stand up there trying to mumble through the verses while the crowd looks uncomfortable. It's a BUMMER! But I always have wild changes of scene. Have you seen the movie of Anna Karenina? They film the whole thing as though it's on and behind a stage in a play, so it's beautiful but very very odd. That is how my dreams feel sometimes.
Thank you so much for being here today! I really love the dream concept of the book and can't wait to read about how Max and Alice get to know their real sides :D
