Review

As a big fan of the Air Awakens series, I've of course been on top of reading this sequel series. Although Sovereign Sacrifice had a slow pacing, it was too hard not to be invested in these characters and wanting to continue their story.

Vi Solaris is the embodiment of character growth. Sovereign Sacrifice brings us closer to the end of her journey and boy does she go through even more physical and mental trials. Things get harder and harder for Vi but her determination never wavers. She's a tough cookie. I'm cheering for her success!

I really enjoyed the first Vortex Chronicles book so it pains me to say this but Sovereign Sacrifice wasn't as appealing. The story felt drawn out to me. I felt underwhelmed with the events that occurred. There was a lot of waiting around and when the action finally came, they were quick and done with. However, there were emotional times, like meeting Aldrik's mother and shocking moments like Zira's unavoidable death and Vi's ultimate realization on how to defeat Raspian.

My lack of interest in Sovereign Sacrifice may just be middle book syndrome as I still very much look forward to seeing how Elise will wrap up the Vortex Chronicles storyline!
