Goodreads Summary:
It’s been years since seventeen-year-old Becca Hart believed in true love. But when her former best friend teases her for not having a boyfriend, Becca impulsively pretends she’s been secretly seeing someone.
Brett Wells has it all. Being captain of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school, he should have no problem finding someone to date, but he’s always been more focused on his future than who to bring to prom. When he overhears Becca’s lie, Brett decides to step in and be her mystery guy. It’s the perfect solution: he gets people off his back for not dating and she can keep up the ruse.
Acting like the perfect couple isn’t easy though, especially when you barely know the other person. But with Becca still picking up the pieces from when her world was blown apart years ago and Brett just barely holding his together now, they begin to realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined. When the line between real and pretend begins to blur, they are forced to answer the question: is this fake romance the realest thing in either of their lives?

Review
I was hoping for a quick and fun read over the holidays when I picked up The Upside of Falling and quick and fun was what I got~ The story was well-rounded leaving me completely satisfied.
The Upside of Falling had a little bit of everything- family, friendship and romance. I really liked that the story was told in dual POV. We got to see more than one side and how similar issues can have very different outcomes. The problems the story dealt with were not too heavy or dramatic and they had good resolutions. One I couldn't 100% agree with but was definitely realistic.
The romance felt natural. Despite meeting because of faking a relationship, Becca and Brett had an easy rapport. It allowed them to be open and honest with each other. They could talk about anything- from food to books to divorce, nothing was off limits. I was a fan of their relationship because it felt organic. Both Becca and Brett were caring and supportive people so there was no way they wouldn't have fallen for each other.
There's also great friendship portrayal in The Upside of Falling. Becca and her current best friend were hilarious while her and her ex best friend had a lot to work out. It was pretty sweet watching them reconnect. With Brett and his best friend we see a bromance that has two guys keeping it real with each other.
The Upside of Falling is a book I'd recommend to readers looking for a light and cute read. Don't think too much and just go pick up a copy ;)
