Review
So given how strong the Once Upon a Broken Heart series started, this last book was a weak ending. I still loved the characters and everyone got what they deserved but sadly A Curse for True Love just wasn't as whimsical as the first two books.
What I Liked:
- a hopeful tale
- beautiful writing as usual
- Evangeline actively trying to recover her memories
- applause for Evangeline's persistence and unwavering belief in Jacks ('s love)
- the Valors were more just than I originally thought
- a true fairytale ending
- Apollo's end was very satisfying
- possibility for more stories in the world? (Castor and/or Lala's?)
The Not So Much:
- Apollo's behaviour was absolutely appalling
- Jack was a bit unlike himself in this book
- I don't feel like it was very clearly explained why Evangeline didn't die from kissing Jacks
- the plot was not very engaging
I'll admit, that as much as I LOOOOVE these books I did hope for a bit more with this final installment. I guess I just had higher expectations and I definitely wanted more of Jacks in the story but alas, things just didn't go completely the way I thought. I did see the potential for more stories and I am DEEPLY curious about them! Especially in one of her bonus scenes...I think it was Waterstones that had something that made me scream WHAT?! Lol.
ReplyDeleteI have a vague recollection of why Evangeline...I mean I'd totally need to re-read it, but I thought they gave a loose explanation. But I'm not 100%. If you wanted to message me somewhere I can tell you what I vaguely recalled. It wasn't much I don't think and was kind of like...that's it? I definitely need another reread if I can ever find the time!
