Goodreads Summary:
From USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry comes a sweeping Western romance about undeniable attraction, unforeseen circumstances, and seemingly unbeatable odds.

My first day in Montana, I got into a tug-of-war over a grocery store shopping cart. The most handsome man I’d ever seen broke up the scuffle before he asked me on a date. I was seconds away from accepting but then he told me his name.

As an owner of the Haven River Ranch, Jax Haven wasn’t my boss. But he wasn’t not my boss either.

Obviously, my only option was to turn him down, scurry away, then pretend like he was a stranger on my first day of work. And obviously, I could never, ever admit that he was my secret crush.

For as hard as I work at my job, I work twice as hard to pretend Jax doesn’t exist. I don’t let myself think about his dazzling eyes or charming smile. I refuse to acknowledge how good he looks in a pair of faded Wrangler jeans. And as tempting as he is in a cowboy hat, Jax is a distraction I cannot afford.

Everything was going according to plan until the annual holiday party. Until I drank one too many flutes of champagne and let him sweep me off my feet. After a night in his bed, there was no more ignoring Jax Haven. Not when I’m pregnant with his baby.

Review

Having not read Crossroads, the first book in the Haven River Ranch series, I took a chance with Sunlight. It ended up being just what I needed- a light-hearted romance full of solace.

Even though I was well aware of the existence of a pregnancy trope in Sunlight, I was still wary going into the story. I’m happy to say the author does a good job incorporating it. The pressure and joy this surprise brought to Sasha and Jax were evident. There was a good balance of serious talks and comedic dialogues.

Sasha and Jax were both very likable. Despite her reservations and his inclinations, both were down-to-earth people. What I found a little annoying at times was Jax’s nicknames for Sasha. Seeing as they didn’t exactly get together till late in the story, they were a bit much early on. Though I have to give Jax credit for the patience he showed Sasha. He nudged but never pushed her into anything she wasn’t comfortable with.

Family was a complicated matter in Sunlight. Given the trauma in Sasha's past, it made sense she didn't easily warm up to people. Jax had a great support network in most of his family members so his conflict with Lily was sad to hear about. It was nice seeing people realize their mistakes then actively try to make amends.

As my first Devney Perry book, Sunlight was a success~ I look forward to reading more from her!
