Goodreads Summary:
Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control in this heartfelt novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Summer I Turned Pretty series.
What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them... all at once?
Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren't love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she's written. One for every boy she's ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean's love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

Review
So good, I finished this book in one sitting! The story was definitely different from what I imagined. I thought it would focus on Lara Jean reliving each of her letter crushes but it didn't. The letters started off the story which moved along nicely. It kept me reading and feeling excited at all the possibilities for Lara Jean.
I so adore the love and hate relationship between Lara Jean and Peter! When they started their fake relationship, they had no illusions of liking each other whatsoever. They are able to be open and honest with each other. In my opinion that paved a great way for their relationship to develop. I was more than ecstatic when they confessed their feelings for each other! However, I can't figure Peter out. On one hand he seems to really like Lara Jean but on the other, he seems so casual with everything about her. He doesn't seem serious at all! I really hope Peter grows up more in the next book.
Josh. I so did not care for him. I mean yes at first I can see why Lara Jean had a crush on him. He was very mature and attractive but he was also very much taken. By none other than Lara Jean's sister. So why then does he still make a move on Lara Jean after reading her letter? Bad Josh. It's too late! You missed your chance and just messed up big time.

The best thing about this book was the dynamic between the Song sisters. I have two sisters too so I can totally relate!! Kitty's stubborn, being the youngest, Margot's always serious, being the oldest and finally Lara Jean's rational being in the middle. Their interactions, whether they were fighting or just teasing, were all very real.
I love this book but that ending ahh!! Lara Jean needs to finish her second letter to Peter!! Or better yet, Peter should write her a letter cause that would be fun to read ;)
This is the first I've heard of this book and I'm still a little unclear about what it's actually about. Does someone find her letters? If so, I learned early on not to write things down unless you want someone to find them out! Haha! In any case, it seems like you loved it so maybe I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing!

They accidentally get sent out! I agree with you. I don't write down anything that I don't want people to see. For Lara Jean, it was kind of her way of getting it out of her system. I know this isn't normally your type of book but if you do try it, I hope you'll enjoy it :D
DeleteI love books with a strong friendship or sibling plot going, it makes such a huge difference in the storyline. I really want to read this one now!
ReplyDeleteIt was the best!! Read it nowwww!!
DeleteI really need to read my copy of this book, Eileen. I'm a little worried about all the "relationships" involved, though. Eeep.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, it's not too bad. The family relationships are gooood!
DeleteI enjoyed this one too. I didn't expect there to be a part two. I don't read many contemporary novels that are series. I'm interested in seeing where this story goes. Great review! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :D I didn't think there would be a sequel either but with the way this one ended I think we all need one!
DeleteI'll add this one to my to-read mountain!
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm contributing to the mountain ;)
