Goodreads Summary:
There was once a lady who loathed a lord... Lady Aurelia hasn't always hated Max, Viscount Camden, her brother's best friend. In fact, as a besotted girl, she thrived under his kind attention – sure that he was the most noble and handsome man in the land. Until her young heart discovered what manner of rogue he really was. Now, though she enjoys nothing more than getting on his last nerve, she can’t deny Max drives her to distraction—even if she tries to pretend otherwise.

...and a lord who was confounded by a lady.

Max cannot recall a time when Aurelia did not vex him. If she was not his friend’s sister, he would stay far away from the infuriating vixen. Unfortunately, they are always thrown together. At parties and family gatherings…she is always there. Infuriating him, tossing punch in his face, driving him mad...until one night, she goes too far and he retaliates in the only way he can: with a kiss that changes everything.

Review

I stayed up late to read this one and I do not regret it (maybe just a tinsy bit because I now have bags under my eyes lol). Initially I didn't feel very fulfilled with the book but then I realized I was just disappointed there was no more. This is 100% a romance read and all the romantic tension just leaves you craving for more.

When they were young, Aurelia and Max were friends. She has been in love with him ever since they met at age nine and eleven respectively. At least it was love right up until she witnesses him engaging in a scandalous act. Following that she unintentionally humiliates him which marks the beginning of their never-ending feud. With every chance they get, they squabble heatedly and throw thinly-veiled insults at each other. It was pretty much endless. Yet their hostility only fuelled the intensity of their relationship and fired up their passion. Every bit between them was delicious.

Aurelia lashes out at Max a lot but in my opinion it was because of her mixed feelings for him. No matter how hard she tried to deny it, her actions spoke louder than her words. Undoubtedly she intentionally did things to catch his attention. I love that she expresses herself through her caricature drawings. Evidently her vulnerability also lies in those but nobody should have the ability to take that small comfort away from her. Her stubbornness came in handy at her protecting her drawings.

Max and his masculine way would give any lady weak legs but there were times when I found him frustrating to the max. Especially with all his "I can't" internal talk. He was so blindly focused on what he didn't want that he missed what was already there. It sure took quite a scare for him to finally pull through the dark thoughts and reach for all that goodness.

I hope this is not the last book in the series! I'm thinking maybe Cecily can have her own story? It would be a romance full of challenges seeing that she's a maid but it's Sophie Jordan so I'm sure she'll make it work. I know the chances are probably not very high but I'm praying hard.

  2. Staying up late at night reading a book is rarely regretted, even if you have to get some extra caffeine and concealer! ;)
