Goodreads Summary:
Feyre survived Amarantha's clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can't forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin's people.
Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world torn apart.

Review
Absolutely brilliant and amazing. I liked A Court of Thorns and Roses but I didn't fall in love until A Court of Mist and Fury. It's a Sarah J. Maas book that leaves an imprint in your mind, heart and soul!!
The story packs a punch or rather, many big punches. There's not much I can say without giving the story away but just know it's one hell of a book. The storyline really ties into the first book. Almost like a behind the scene, we get to see a lot of things more clearly. I thought ACOTAR was intense but the stakes are even higher in ACOMAF. It's impossible not to become invested. This book elicits all sorts of emotions.
Thinking back to the A Court of Thorns and Roses, it's clear how much foundation Ms. Maas laid down. This second book really expands from there and would not be the same had the events in the first book not occurred. It's pretty incredible seeing it all connect.
The characters really shine in A Court of Mist and Fury. It's all about the Night Court. I love the Inner Circle. Each and every one of them have been through hell and are still enduring pain but they stand strong. The love and trust they have for each other is unmovable. I was especially blown away by the truth behind Rhysand's façade. To have firmly and steadily held on through that soul-crushing period of time... It was one powerful and emotional moment when he bared it all (pun definitely intended) to Feyre.
It's hard to say a lot or express the full extent of my feelings without mentioning key plot points so from this point on I will be talking about spoilers. You have been warned!
Right off the bat I want to say I was totally spoiled on the romance in this book. I didn't want to be nor did I go searching for spoilers but there was only so much I could do to completely avoid them (without going to any extremes). I was sad and disappointed to be spoiled so I put off reading the book when it first came out. Thanks Kim for finally urging me to read it ;)
Although I have some reservations, the big change in ship didn't really bother me. It was a long time coming by the end of the book. I think Ms. Maas does an excellent job transitioning the relationships. Rhysand has been nothing but supportive and encouraging for Feyre. Even if his methods may seem selfish and malicious. In her darkest hours, he pushed her and led her to stand on her own two feet. Compared to Tamlin's actions, Rhysand is a saint. Now the things that Tamlin does in this book...those are unforgivable. Literally nothing could excuse him from his poor behaviour and ultimate betrayal. I wouldn't be surprised by whatever Feyre does to him in the next book.
I'm also really loving the secondary romantic pairings. I hope Mor and Azriel finally act on their feelings. They seem like a great pair. I'm so giddy and beyond excited to see developments between Nesta and Cassian. I'm 1000% rooting for them. Finally, I'm sad for Elain but curious to see her mating bond with Lucien. It could be really sweet?
That ending was a huge game changer. Ms. Maas does not mess around. She put in place the perfect set up for the next book. So sneaky but wonderful at the same time! Just when I fell into despair for Feyre and Rhysand's broken bond, we learn what they did in secret. They are forever~ Does that ever keep the excitement alive!! There's hope and that's all I need.
In true Sarah J. Maas fashion, she has given us a gem with A Court of Mist and Fury. Now I join the countless other readers dying for the next book as we all hold all breaths awaiting the fate of our favourite group of fae.
I liked ACOTAR but wasn't in love with it, so I wasn't dying to read ACOMAF but just like you was spoiled because people were screaming about the romance and almost everything left, right and center on Twitter.
ReplyDeleteJust like you I'm glad that I gave ACOMAF a try even after all the spoilers, because the book made me fall in love with the series!
High fivesssss Pili!! Now we're all just dying for that third book. I swear I'm going to read it the week it's out. The spoilers are not coming near me! LOL
DeleteI did not love ACOTAR, but I really really liked this one. To be honest, I still haven't finish it... it's really big ;)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed it!
