Goodreads Summary:
Maddie doesn't believe in luck. She's all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment -- She wins!

In a flash, Maddie's life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she's talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun... until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn't sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn't seem aware of Maddie's big news. And, for some reason, she doesn't want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

Review

Every time I read a Kasie West book I have to say this: if you've never read a Kasie West story you're missing out! She brings all the cutes and swoons. She also has a way of dealing with issues in a realistic and approachable manner.

The idea of winning the lottery seems like such an absurd idea yet that was exactly what happened to Maddie. She wasn't a believer but luck was on her side (or was it?). Her fortune changed almost everyone around her and as she soon comes to realize, not for the better.

The story was very much about Maddie. From the moment she found out she won the lottery she started her journey to self-discovery. One ticket helped shape her understanding of herself, the people around her and maybe even the world. She's sweet and so innocent to begin with, I fumed at how people took advantage of her. At the same time I shook my head at how naive she was acting. It took her a bit of time to really open her eyes and see but she was a smart girl.

I loved the importance placed on her relationship with her family and her budding romance with Seth. The situation between her parents and with her brother were vital to her growth. It showed how money doesn't solve every problem. Seth was a golden boy! Not only was he funny and thoughtful, he was patient. He was such a sweetheart. Maddie and Seth got along so easily and effortlessly they were a pair to believe in.

Another constant in Maddie's life were her friends. Her best friend was especially wonderful. She might have been a tad cynical towards other people but her unwavering loyalty to Maddie anchored her to reality. Blaire never let Maddie's win go to her head and always reminded her she's capable before she bought the lottery ticket.

I will always read Kasie West. If you want some happy feels and adorable swoons, pick up a Kasie West book! You will not be disappointed!
