Goodreads Summary:
Sometimes when perfect falls apart, a little trouble fixes everything . . .

Twenty-one-year-old Kayla Turner has lost everything. After spending most of her life taking care of her ailing mother, she just wants to spot a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. So when her late father-a man she barely knew-leaves her an inheritance, she finally breathes a sigh of relief . . . until she learns the inheritance comes with strings. Strings in the form of handsome playboy Daren Ackwood, her father's protégé. To see any of her inheritance, she's forced to team up with him. From his expensive car to those sexy dimples, Kayla's seen his type before. But Daren isn't who he seems to be . . .

Struggling to make amends for his family's mistakes, Daren has a life more Oliver Twist than Richie Rich these days. He's beyond grateful that James Turner included him in his will, but working with Turner's princess of a daughter to fulfill his cryptic last wish is making Daren wonder if being broke is really so bad. Still, she's just as beautiful as she is stubborn, and the more time he spends with Kayla, the less it feels right being without her. Soon Daren and Kayla begin to wonder if maybe the best gift Kayla's dad could have left them . . . was each other.

Excerpt

I reach Mr. Perkins’s office and quickly park before climbing out of the car in my high heels.

The inheritance really could be only twenty dollars—or less—and spending an afternoon chained to Daren Ackwood to find it could be a complete waste of time, not to mention horribly awkward given our romantic encounter last night, but it’s worth a shot. Because if it turns out to be a substantial amount of money, everything could change.

Not only could I go back to nursing school, but I could afford a decent apartment and buy myself some time to find a new job—one where my boss isn’t demanding I work for free or flash him in order to pay off my mother’s debt.

Ugh. My life can really only go uphill from where I’m at.

I know money can’t buy happiness, and I believe that. But it would be nice to be out from under Big Joe’s threatening thumb. And sleeping in a cockroach-free apartment while eating regular hot meals wouldn’t be bad either.

I hurry down the sidewalk toward Mr. Perkins’s office, tripping a little in my shoes. Maybe wearing the skirt and heels again wasn’t such a great idea. But I wanted to look professional and responsible, and the gray dress is too hot and the only other pair of shoes I own are my beat-up sneakers from last night. I didn’t think a pencil skirt and a pair of dirty sneakers really said I can be trusted with my deceased father’s money. So I went with the pumps.

I wobble as my shoe catches on a small pebble and curse under my breath.

High heels really are a bitch.

Up ahead, I see Daren round a corner and hurry toward the office, now just a few yards down the sidewalk. I relax a little, knowing he’s not there yet. As we near each other, my stomach fills with butterflies. I don’t know what I’m more anxious about—the inheritance or seeing Daren.

We reach Eddie’s door at the same time.

“Good morning.” He smiles broadly.

“Morning,” I respond with a cheerful smile of my own.

Our smiles are exaggerated, like we’re trying to prove just how “okay” we are with the thing that never happened last night. Then our eyes meet in brief a clash of lust, and tension fills the air.

Daren is the first to break it. “So. You ready to do this?”

“I am,” I say.

The tension returns, but this time it’s laced with nervousness. We’re about to lock ourselves together. For money. The morning after we dry humped each other against a bar. It’s nothing less than weird and desperate. Which begs the question, why is Daren doing this?

I know why I’m subjecting myself to this craziness but I’m still not sure why Daren has agreed—especially without knowing how much money is at stake. Is he in it for the thrill? Is he just bored?

Whatever his reasons are, I’m grateful.

We enter the office and Eddie looks up from his messy desk, his glasses perched on his shiny head. Today he’s wearing a yellow button-up shirt with a plaid bow tie to match his plaid pants. The look suits him.

“You’ve returned,” he says brightly, standing to greet us. “I guess this means you’ve come to a decision about Mr. Turner’s letter?”

“We have,” I say.

Daren nods. “Yes.”

“Excellent.” Eddie clasps his hands together. “What have you decided?”

Daren and I exchange an anxious look. My stomach does a flip-flop, afraid he’s going to change his mind, but then he gives me a subtle nod and I nod back.

We turn to face Eddie, hold out our wrists, and at the same time say, “Cuff us.”

Top 5 Romantic Comedies

Today I've got Chelsea Fine here to share her Top 5 Romantic Comedies with us! Without further ado, here she is!

Just FriendsJust Friends – This is my favorite romantic comedy of all time! Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris, and Amy Smart are amazing together. First of all, Ryan Reynolds is ridiculously funny in this movie—like laugh-out-loud-pee-your-pants funny—and all the supporting characters are hilarious as well. I watch it at least once a year. My favorite quotes:

Samantha: I wanna lick your skin off!
Chris: I’d prefer you didn’t.

Chris: It’s like the Michael Bolton starter kit.

Chris: Where are my ice skates? Mom! I need my skates to show off my talents!

Friends With BenefitsFriends With Benefits – I’ll be honest here. I didn’t think I was going to like this movie at all. I thought it was going to be predictable and cheesy, and I was so wrong. It was actually really touching. I thought it was incredibly well written and that Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis did a great job with their characters.

10 Things I Hate About You10 Things I Hate About You – This movie. THIS MOVIE. First of all, it came out during my senior year of high school, which was just an epic time in my life in general, and I was instantly obsessed. This was my first Heath Ledger experience and it was pure gold. This movie is funny, heartbreaking, and poetic. Ah! I love it so much. My favorite part is when Cat reads off her 10 Things I Hate About You poem to the class. I totally cried. Haha.

I hate the way you talk to me
And the way you cut your hair
I hate the way you drive my car
I hate it when you stare
I hate your big dumb combat boots
And the way you read my mind
I hate you so much that it makes me sick
It even makes me ryhme
I hate the way you're always right
I hate it when you lie
I hate it when you make me laugh
Even worse when you make me cry
I hate the way you're not around
And the fact that you didn't call
But mostly I hate the way I don't hate you
Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days
How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days – I just love the chemistry Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have on screen. And this movie was really, really cute. And sweet. And it had a super happily ever after, which is always a bonus. I’m a fan. A big fan.

Pitch PerfectPitch Perfect – Growing up, music was my life (and my dream). I was in every choir and vocal ensemble I could be and was part of more than a few a cappella groups. So this movie SPOKE TO THE VERY HEART OF ME. Hahaha. And it was effing hilarious. Like, unbelievably funny. I can’t even. If you haven’t seen it, your life is sorely incomplete. And yes, I’m calling it a romantic comedy because Beca and Jesse were adorable. There are too many great quotes for me to list all my favorites, but here are a few:

Jesse: You're one of the a cappella girls. I'm one of those a cappella boys, and we're gonna have aca-children. It's inevitable.
Beca: You're really drunk right now. I don't think you're gonna remember any of this.
Jesse: No, I'm not drunk at all. You're just blurry.

Benji: Look, just so you know, I'm not a total nerd. I also happen to be super-into close-up magic.

Gail: Nothing makes a woman feel more like a girl than a man who sings like a boy.

There you have it! My Top 5 Romantic Comedies! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch 10 Things I Hate About You for the bazillionth time. Later! **dashes

Thank you so much Chelsea for sharing your top 5 romantic comedies with us today!

Chelsea lives in Phoenix, Arizona, where she spends most of her time writing stories, painting murals, and avoiding housework at all costs. She's ridiculously bad at doing dishes and claims to be allergic to laundry. Her obsessions include: superheroes, coffee, sleeping-in, and crazy socks. Review

The publisher has very kindly sent me a review copy even though I've already read this last year. Just before I started blogging too! I've decided to reread it now and share my thoughts :) The second time around was just as fun as the first. The whole reason I picked up this book in the first place was because the premise intrigued me. I mean handcuffing two people together to go on a treasure hunt? I'm in~

Kayla and Daren are two almost strangers. They've known of each other since they were young but never acknowledged each other until Kayla's father, James Turner's death. In his will, he stated that he left everything to the two of them but under one condition. He has hidden the money away and requested that they search for it together. In handcuffs. Of course, they resist the preposterous proposal at first. However, the two of them, for a very similar reason, could use the money. So quite reluctantly they decide to work together, for the money. Along the way, they teach and learn from each other in more ways than they thought possible.

Despite being Kayla's father, Daren was the one that saw Turner as a fatherly figure. He has respected and looked up to him ever since Turner helped him out when he was young. Kayla, on the other hand, resented her father because he never contacted her or showed any signs that he cared about her. Their difference in opinion of Turner set them at opposite ends. Both were stubborn, refusing to back down. However, as they got to spend more time together, they slowly lowered their defenses and put aside their hostilities. What if what they knew wasn't the full truth? They both realize there was more to each other than their initial impressions and assumptions. Daren may not be the playboy she's always pegged him to be and Kayla isn't the princess he's always figured she was. I'm glad they were brought together so they could learn the truths!

I may have guessed where the money was early on but I greatly enjoyed how the story turned out. It was quite the adventure with them stumbling into all sorts of bumps and snags. They definitely hit jackpot in more than one sense and I had a fun time watching them do it!
