Goodreads Summary:
Jules Parish has screwed up.

After three years of boosting cars, she got caught. She's too good to get caught, but she let her (ex)-boyfriend talk her into a questionable job. And now, she and her little sister, Emma, will be kicked out of their foster home, left to survive on the unforgiving streets of Las Vegas alone.

Unless.

Eccentric, wealthy Roger Montgomery wants to open up his mansion to Jules and Emma. The only catch? Jules must steal seven of the rarest, most valuable muscle cars in the world—in seven weeks. Even worse, she’s forced to put her trust in three complete strangers to help her do it.

First there’s Chelsea, the gorgeous redhead with a sharp tongue and love for picking locks. Then there’s Mat, who hasn’t met a system he couldn’t hack. And finally there’s the impossibly sexy car thief Nick, whose bad attitude and mysterious past drive Jules crazy.

With nothing in common and everything to lose, can Jules and her amateur crew pull off what could be the biggest car heist in history? Or will things spin out of control faster than a Nevada dust devil?

Review

I am a big fan of Gone in Sixty Seconds so when I heard about Overdrive, I knew I had to read it. Overdrive is a speedy thrilling read! I had to really pace myself while reading because this was one fast ride.

What made Overdrive real to me was the lingos and jargons used. I'm no expert in cars and locks (also ballet) but when the characters were talking, they felt right. Their expertise showed in their words. Combined with the thrill of the actions, I had great fun reading this book.

I wasn't all that invested in the mystery. Bits of clues led me to a loose answer so the reasoning behind stealing the cars didn't interest me but I was all in for the action. I loved joining the crew on their jobs. Even if these people were technically the "bad guys", it was fun and exciting to see them work their skills. There were a few scenes that were similar to the movie but the tense, nerve-wracking atmosphere giving way to adrenaline rushes were spot-on.

Jules is a very guarded character. She's had to make some tough choices to keep her sister protected hence her hackles are always raised; she's quick to snap at anyone that comes close. But all of that changes when she enters Roger Montgomery's mansion. As the stakes were high, she's forced to work with others. Slowly she learns to trust them and that was a welcome change from her usual prickliness.

Besides seeing the characters work as a team, we also learn a little about their past. I loved getting to know each of them but our understandings felt very limited (being told). In a way, their backgrounds were a tool of convenience for the story to work out. In addition to that, I'm not sure how believable it is for these teenagers to be able to complete these heists. With their success rate, they're a lucky team.

If you're a fan of car chases and action sequences, make sure you grab yourself a copy of Overdrive. With action after action this is one ride that's bound to get your blood rushing and heart pounding!
