That One Summer (Summer Series #3)

Goodreads Summary:
Loving Chris Henderson
would be wrong. Diabolically disastrous. I mean, what is there about him
to love? He’s moody, bossy, brooding, a control freak, and that’s on a
good day … but there was one achingly obvious fact that haunted my every
thought, every minute of every day …
He sure could kiss.
As the countdown to the new millennium begins, there is one thing everyone agrees on: no one wants to be in Onslow for New Year’s Eve.
So that can only mean one thing: road trip!
No longer the mousey, invisible, shy girl from years ago, Tammy Maskala is finally making up for all those lost summers. A new year with new friends, which astoundingly includes the bossy boy behind the bar, Chris Henderson.
She likes her new friends (at least most of them), so why does she secretly feel so out of place?
After chickening out on the trip, a last-minute change of heart sees Tammy racing to the Onslow Hotel, fearing she’s missed her chance for a ride. The last thing she expected to meet was a less-than-happy Onslow Boy leaning against his black panel van.
Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.
Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.
He sure could kiss.

Review
I think I enjoyed Chris and Tammy's story the most out of all the current books in the Summer Series!! It was refreshing to see the gang out of Onslow in another setting, or multiple settings for that matter. I always enjoy a nice road trip book so I knew I'd enjoy this one before I even started.
Tammy was so brave to break out of her shy self and live. Positive all the way! Chris was portrayed as the stiff and bossy guy yet he's got such a sweet side towards Tammy. He's moody with just the perfect touch of caring. Who wouldn't swoon for him?!? They are made for each other for sure! I adored the fiasco with the shoe(s). Their reactions were too funny and too cute.
This book had the most 'love scenes' out of the series so far. They were definitely hot but without being too R rated. Things sure heated up when Chris and Tammy were near water or even just near a car. I needed water to cool down after certain steamy scenes in the book ;)
I absolutely have to say this because I laughed so hard when Tammy mistakened Adam for Chris. I both saw it coming and didn't! "Well, this is awkward" was the best line from the book, hahahaha!!
Something about the way C.J. Duggan writes just really pulls me in. Her books have such a fun and easy tone to them that I just can't stop reading! I absolutely cannot wait for Adam and Ellie's story and I am not beyond begging for it! Please?
So glad this was another great addition to the series!
ReplyDeletePlease read it soon!

DeleteI gave up on this series after the first book. Somehow I couldn't connect with the characters but I'm really glad that you're enjoying this series. I love how those love scenes sound. Great review, Eileen :)
ReplyDeleteAwww I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it but thanks for stopping by and commenting :)
DeleteThis series has a lot of positive reviews and it sounds like the characters are so well developed and that's always what attracts me to a contemporary. The romance also sounds very chemistry-filled! Great review, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteYes, I've really enjoyed this series! Thanks for coming by and taking your time to comment :)
DeleteI was surprised how much I enjoyed their story as well since Chris was always the reserved one I wasn't sure how it would go. It was also nice to get away from Onslow for once and bring something new in. I also laughed. Mistaken identity would be so embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha we definitely think along the same lines!!
