TTT #5: Books I'm Not Sure I Want to Read!

Top Tep Tuesday button

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish where people share their top ten things according to the topic of that week.

The books I've chosen today are ones that I'm interested in picking up but haven't had time to yet or have reservations about reading them. If you've read any, let me know whether you enjoyed them or not! In no particular order, here they are :)

Maybe Someday coverUgly Love cover

1. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover - I heard there's quite a bit of cheating in this one so I'm not sure how much I want to read it.

2. Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover - People have been raving about this one but it sounds so heartbreaking :(

Mortal DangerThe Thousand Dollar Tan Line cover

3. Mortal Danger by Ann Aguirre - I heard this one's quite graphic so I'm a little hesitant to pick it up.

4. The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas - I love the tv show but not sure if this will be as good as that.

Of Poseidon coverMiss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children coverThe Bronze Horseman cover

5. Of Poseidon by Anna Banks - I've never read a mermaid book so I really want to try this but I've heard the story drags on for quite a bit.

6. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs - The pictures scare me a bit so I haven't managed to pick this up.

7. The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons - I love historical fiction and I've heard people loving this series but it's a trilogy and each book is gigantic so I haven't started yet.

Tease coverWe Were Liars coverThe Night Circus cover

8. Tease by Amanda Manciel - A book that talks about bullying from the perspective of the bully. I think this will be a really emotional read.

9. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart - I've read mixed reviews where people either loved this book or hated it so I'm a little conflicted about whether I should try.

10. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - Not sure why I've been putting this one off. I've heard great things about it.

What books are you not sure if you want to read or not?

  1. I felt undecided on a few of these books even though they didn't make my list, like The Night Circus and the Colleen Hoover books.

  2. I liked "The Night Circus", but I didn't think it was anything special. It's definitely an enjoyable read, though, so I recommend it.

  3. Ugly Love is so worth the read but it is an emotional one!

Of Poseidon I actually really liked and I am not a fan of mermaid stories.

The Night Circus was brilliant but I think it is one of those books (it is long and rather descriptive) that isn't for everyone.

Those are the only ones from your list I have read but I did rate all of them at least 4 stars if that helps at all.

    1. Ugly Love and Of Poseidon are definitely at the top of my list to consider reading :) This definitely helps so thank you!!

  4. Here's my opinion:

Pick up Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and We Were Liars

I was NOT a fan of the Night Circus but everyone else is, so maybe it was just me.... ?? :/

  5. I liked Of Poseidon! I actually still need to read the final book in the series still! It was a great mermaid book imo. Another one is Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs!

I actually enjoyed Mortal Danger too. I can't remember if I would call it graphic. I mean, there's a kind of violence going around, so I guess that's "graphic" in a way, but to me it's not like it was Saw...which I never did see because I heard that was very graphic! LOL! ;)

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

    1. I'm really struggling with Of Poseidon but thanks for the rec :)

Lol, yes all the Saw movies were very graphic. I guess Mortal Danger is graphic in the way that you can picture the violence?

  6. You should read We Were Liars, it's pretty good i just finished it :)

  7. Colleen Hoover is beyond amazing. I would recommend all of her books. I'm reading Ugly Love right now. Though it's not my favorite, it's still really great. :)

  8. I agree with you on so many of these! I love Colleen Hoover and will honestly read anything that she writes!!

I have heard so many negative things about Mortal Danger that I don't think I want to read it anymore :(

    1. Thank you! I'm hearing so much love for Colleen Hoover I think I'm going to try one of her books soon!

I'm totally right there with you on Mortal Danger. :(

  9. I actually agree with most of this list. I sometimes find myself unsure of whether the hype is... all it's hyped up to be. Thanks for visiting Cornerfolds!

  10. I have Maybe Someday and the VMars book on my tablet. I've heard good things about both but it's hard for me to pick up my tablet and read on it voluntarily. Why must I love physical books so much?

    1. Hahaha I know what you mean! Physical books are just so much more attractive ;) I only read ebooks because they're so convenient.

  11. There is not much cheating in Maybe Someday.

  12. There are quite a few books on here that I'm curious about; Mortal Danger, Miss Peregrine and Tease. Of Poseidon was pretty good, but I haven't continued on with the series. Great list!

  13. I've never read anything by Colleen Hoover but I know everyone loves her. I need to get to her eventually. I HATED We Were Liars but I also know a million people that loved it. Of Poseidon is on my TBR and I think I will love it I just haven't made it there yet. Miss Peregrine creeps me out just with the cover so I don't think I will be reading that one.

    Thanks for stopping by today!

  14. The only book I've read from your list is Maybe Someday (I just finished the audio book yesterday) and it was my first book by Hoover. There is cheating involved, which is the part I didn't like, but I also loved the writing. I haven't had any luck with mermaid books, so I'm always hesitant to read those. I've seen mixed reviews about many of these.
    Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I've heard Colleen Hoover writes beautifully and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I've seen lots of mixed reviews on most of these that's why I'm so hesitant to pick them up :(

  15. I didn't put them on my list because I don't own them, but I know where you are coming from with several of these. I plan to read The Night Circus, but I'm really afraid that it won't live up to the hype. I have also heard really good things about We Were Liars, The Bronze Horseman, and Colleen Hoover's books, but I definitely understand your reluctance to read them because I'm not sure whether I will pick them up myself.

    1. Yay you understand too! I read the first couple pages of The Night Circus and it didn't draw me in so that's why I haven't really picked it up. I hope you have better luck and thanks for stopping by :)

  16. I actually really liked Of Poseidon and the sequel. I did a mermaid reading challenge last summer and it was one of the better reads in my opinion. I had a friend who read Night Circus and she had a really hard time getting through it. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. Happy Tuesday! :D

  17. You did pick a lot of books that seem to be "love it or hate it" books among the bloggers I follow.
    For the record:
Loved: We Were Liars, Veronica Mars and the Whatever (but get the audio, because K. Bell reads it.)
Not So Much: Night Circus. Literally everyone I know loved it, but I tried a few chapters and just didn't get it...

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I've never tried an audio book but if Kristen Bell read it then I'm in! I think I will have the same result as you with The Night Circus. I tried the first couple pages and I didn't really feel anything special :(

  18. Colleen Hoover is an author whose work have been generally well received in the blogosphere. That's not to say you shouldn't have any reservations, though. Her characters tend to be broken, so if angst isn't your cup of tea, you might not like them at all. :)

  19. Tease is a really emotional read, but it has some really nice, happier moments in it as well. I definitely vote it for a good read. :)

  20. I wanted to have Ugly Love on my list since that's the first book I thought of when I read the topic for this week, but something made me hold it back when making my post. Let me tell you something. I did not finish Maybe Someday. It was way too boring and way too slow for my taste, and that's one of the reasons why I'm super apprehensive of reading Ugly Love. In fact, I'm not even bothered about it. I have read We Were Liars, but didn't end up loving it as much as many seem to have. And I am looking forward to read Ransom Rigg's books someday. As for all your other picks, I've not read them but at some point or the other, I've really wanted to, but I am not in the mood for them now. So, I get you there! Beautiful list, Eileen, and thank you so much for stopping by my post earlier!

    1. Thank you for stopping by too! I hope Ugly Love will be a better experience for you if you do decide to pick it up! I definitely agree that at some point, we stop wanting to read the books that we wanted to before. There are always new books being published and a person's taste can change. Thanks for expressing your honest opinions!

  21. I definitely want to read Ugly Love and The Night Circus. And I am pretty sure I want to read Tease and Mortal Danger. And I am one of the three people on earth who didn't like We Were Liars. It wasn't even that I didn't like it, I was just completely underwhelmed by it. But it is a pretty quick read if you feel like going for it!

    1. Hahaha I might join in and be the fourth person to not like We Were Liars! If I ever get around to reading it, which I just might since it is pretty short, I'll let you know ;) And if you do read any of these other books, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  22. Eh, I actually didn't like Of Poseidon at all. I found it to be boring (like you said, it does drag) but there's still a pretty good chance we would end up thinking differently on that so yeah. As for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, I'm a huge wuss when it comes to anything scary but pff there were only a few chills here and there. (JK, the only reason I managed just fine was because all of it was extremely interesting). Aaand, lastly. I recommend We Were Liars. I didn't like it that much but it's the kind of book you have to experience for yourself so, there.

  23. I liked the two Colleen Hoover books, and that's saying something because I'm not the biggest fan of NAs. Mortal Danger failed to impress me, but I LOVE the Veronica Mars book. As a fan of the show (and the movie!), I think it was great. There just needed to be more LoVe. :)

  24. I actually really liked the pictures in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. They tied in to the story so well. It is a bit creepy, but not overly so; I thought it had just enough weirdness to be really compelling.
