Love and Other Perishable Items by Laura Buzo
Love and Other Perishable Items
by Laura Buzo
December 11, 2012
243 pages

Goodreads Summary:
A wonderful, coming-of-age love story from a fresh new voice in YA fiction.

'Miss Amelia Hayes, welcome to The Land of Dreams. I am the staff trainer. I will call you grasshopper and you will call me sensei and I will give you the good oil. Right? And just so you know, I'm open to all kinds of bribery.'

From the moment 15-year-old Amelia begins work on the checkout at Coles she is sunk, gone, lost...head-over-heels in love with Chris. Chris is the funny, charming, man-about-Woolies, but he's 21, and the 6-year difference in their ages may as well be 100. Chris and Amelia talk about everything from Second Wave Feminism to Great Expectations and Alien but will he ever look at her in the way she wants him to? And if he does, will it be everything she hopes?

Feature & Follow #36: BEA Yay or Nay?

Feature & Follow button

Feature & Follow is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read where each host will have their own Feature blog to show off more new blogs!

The short answer is nope, I have never been to BEA. Since I'm in Canada and BEA is in New York, I'd need to take time off work, book flights, hotel and etc. Lots of work involved. My main reason though is because I'd be going alone if I go. I don't want to drag my family or friends to something they're not interested in and going alone just seems really scary so.... I hope I can go to a book event one day though!

Have you been to BEA? Thank you for stopping by!

Release Day Launch - Excerpt & Giveaway: The Hazards of Sleeping with a Friend (Hazards #5) by Alyssa Rose Ivy

(Hazards #5)
by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Goodreads Summary:
Warning: Sleeping with a friend might change your life forever.

Sleeping with Kyle was never in the plans. Pretending to be his girlfriend was one thing, but letting our relationship become anything but platonic was another. The problem with mixing friendship with sex is that inevitably feelings get involved, and when that happens there's no turning back.

When Kyle's life fell apart around him, I needed to help, but doing that meant opening myself up to the most terrifying thing in the world—falling in love.

Meanwhile, across the sea in the Commonwealth, Sophia Bellamy’s arranged marriage to the wealthy René Hasard is the last chance to save her family from ruin. But when the search for the Red Rook comes straight to her doorstep, Sophia discovers that her fiancé is not all he seems. Which is only fair, because neither is she.

Review: Solitaire by Alice Oseman

Solitaire by Alice OsemanSolitaire
by Alice Oseman
March 30, 2015
368 pages

Goodreads Summary:
In case you're wondering, this is not a love story.

My name is Tori Spring. I like to sleep and I like to blog. Last year – before all that stuff with Charlie and before I had to face the harsh realities of A-Levels and university applications and the fact that one day I really will have to start talking to people – I had friends. Things were very different, I guess, but that's all over now.

Now there's Solitaire. And Michael Holden.

I don't know what Solitaire are trying to do, and I don't care about Michael Holden.

I really don't.

This incredible debut novel by outstanding young author Alice Oseman is perfect for fans of John Green, Rainbow Rowell and all unflinchingly honest writers.

Announcing #MysteryTwitterTheater!!

#MysteryTwitterTheatre Banner

Hi everyone! Guess what I just heard? Last night, YA blogger Ensconced in Lit was murdered! Yep, now she's Ensconced in Death. Her body was discovered on Twitter, and the word on the street is that if someone can figure out who killed her ASAP, she can be brought back to life just in time to assist with the #LiarsIncBook Twitter party, on Tuesday 3/24 at 6pm Pacific time. Paula misses her and totally needs her help, so why not try to #SaveEnsconced? Click here to read what the Ghost of Ensconced has to say about the crime.

Who Killed Ensconced?

The motive for the crime seems pretty clear: a super-epic LIARS, INC. prize pack was stolen off her person sometime between the hours of 6pm and 11:59pm on Thursday, March 19th. What's LIARS, INC.? Oh, it's a murder mystery novel written by Paula Stokes and published by HarperTeen.

LIARS, INC. prize pack

Unlike what you see on TV, the detectives working the case won't let Paula snoop around the crime scene or handle all the evidence, so she’s been gathering clues on her own. But she’s sharing her clues under the #MysteryTwitterTheater hashtag so you can help her find the killer.

In addition to the murderer, you'll also need to figure out where the actual crime was committed, and what the murder weapon was. So basically, this is somewhat like an online game of Clue/Cluedo. The first person to correctly deduce all three pieces of information will win the super-epic LIARS, INC. prize pack, plus awesome mystery gifts.

Head on over to Paula’s blog for all the official details about the game! But be careful. You never know who might turn out to be a killer... *runs away*

Review: Allegiant (Divergent #3) by Veronica Roth

To celebrate the release of the Insurgent movie I decided to share my thoughts on book three, Allegiant since I read Insurgent before I started writing reviews. I'm pumped for the movie, are any of you going to see it?

Allegiant by Veronica RothAllegiant
(Divergent #3)
by Veronica Roth
October 22, 2013
526 pages

Goodreads Summary:
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered--fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature--and of herself--while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa GreyThe Girl at Midnight
(The Girl at Midnight #1)
by Melissa Grey
April 28, 2015
368 pages

Goodreads Summary:
For readers of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones and Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war.

Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she's ever known.

Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she's fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it's time to act.

Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, but if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it's how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it.

But some jobs aren't as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire.

I'm a huge fantasy fan so I definitely need this one in my life! And just look at that gorgeous cover! My sister would go nuts over the purpleness.

Review: The Hazards of Skinny Dipping (Hazards #1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy

I've been expressing my love for the Hazards series but I realized I've never posted it on the blog! So here's my review for the first book in the series!

*Review contains spoilers.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy

248 pages

Goodreads Summary:
This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.
