Review

It's always hard to finish a book knowing the series is at its very end. End of Days was particularly bittersweet. Having binge-read the trilogy it was tough for me when I realized there will be no more Penryn and co after this book.

Normally I'm more than happy to see the conclusion to post-apocalyptic stories. They usually end triumphantly and I'm a fan of success stories. However, in the case of End of Days, I found it difficult to pull myself out of the world. I loved everything in this book.

I was very impressed with where Susan Ee took the story. So creative! We delve into realms I never imagined of visiting and met monsters and angels I didn't think I'd ever see. It was both terrifying and exhilarating. Following the hunting scene in the Pit and the battle sequence on the bridge was especially exciting. So many adrenaline-pumping moments to love!

Penryn's resilience never ceases to amaze me. I love how adept she was at keeping herself together under the worst of circumstances. She never stopped fighting. Even when she knew her chances of survival were low she stood by her comrades. Penryn's just a teenage girl! Her devotion to her sister (and mom) was beautiful and powerful.

Penryn and Raffe together makes me so happy I prayed hard for them to have a happily ever after. They really ramped up the heat in End of Days! The sexual tension was so yummy. I also can't get enough of their endless banters and flawless teamwork. So leave it up to the Archangel and his (she's definitely his! *squeals*) Daughter of Men to defy the odds and be together~

While I absolutely loved this final book I wasn't as satisfied with the ending to the overall series. The final acts felt too quick and easy? Are there no consequences to Raffe's final decision? It was just too neat. I personally needed a bit more to it.

Penryn's story is over and I am sad. I'm holding out hope for a spinoff series or just a companion novel so we can glimpse these awesome characters once more. Hear me when I say the Angelfall books are a definite must-read!!

  1. Yay!! While I didn't love this book as much as the first two, I did LOVE the series as a whole! I would love it if she'd write a companion novel. Did you know the series was originally supposed to be five books?

    1. I didn't know that! Do we know why it got cut short? So sad... Hopefully we get something (anything!) in the coming future.

  2. yeah didn't feel great about last book either. Having said that, if the series was 5 books I think would be overkill (per last comment)

    1. I'm really curious about what else she would've brought into the story had the series been 5 books. Maybe it's good she didn't drag things out :)
