Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

322 pages

Goodreads Summary:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn't even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn't want love, she doesn't have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don't expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can't handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.

Review

I finally read this book after hearing people gush about it for weeks and months! I remember thinking 'why would anyone want to go through that' when I first read the synopsis but people loved it and that increased my interest. Now that I've finished the book, I can confirm I get it because I want more! There's so much heartache but I loved it!

Honestly this book was so emotional. Every part oozed emotions. I can still clearly recall what I felt during each part of the story and every feeling was to the extreme. I was super curious to see how Tate and Miles would start and when they did, it was all very heart-racing and blood-pounding.
I felt sympathetic towards Tate's situation but I was frustrated at how she let it go on and that she allows Miles to treat her that way. At the same time, I was anxious to find out what was so horrible in Miles's past that he couldn't love the one good thing currently in his life. By the end of the book, I was so exhausted. But I was happy with relief that Miles made the right decision. Finally.

Oh Tate! She's so completely aware of all her decisions yet she can't help but make bad ones. She did the one thing she wasn't suppose to do. Then she made it worse by holding out hope that something deeper will eventually come of it. What a foolish girl although I just couldn't bring myself to blame her for having hope. It's only human nature. We try to make something good out of something bad. We tell ourselves it won't all be bad and then we cling to that. Honestly sometimes love isn't just ugly, it makes us do ugly things.

While I wouldn't say I enjoyed reading Mile's POV, let alone his POV on another woman that's not Tate, I did feel its importance. To have hurdled through all the obstacles heading towards acceptance and happiness then have it all torn away. Everything. Gone. What Mile's went through was devastating. I can't even think of a word that will adequately describe it. No words will do justice to what happened to him and what he went through after. I felt it was understandable that he refused to put his heart out on the line again. Poor guy but he was still an a**hole when he treated Tate badly.

Tate and Miles's physical relationship was passionate, scorching, you name it. They fit together and had the undeniable spark to be so much more. Their relationship was seriously mega hot but totally dysfunctional. It definitely irked me when Miles knew Tate was good for him but he still refused to be with her. I wanted to pull my hair out arghh.

Ugly Love is truly a book that takes your emotions on a ride. A ride that's bumpy but totally worth your time. I loved the take on love. It is ugly but the beautiful moments make it worth it! Definitely a story I will not soon forget.

  1. Ooh this is one I have been meaning to read since it came out. I loved Hopeless and this one sounds like it has just as much emotional substance and characterization. I also like how the romance sounds - she just has a way with words, huh? So happy you liked it I really need to get to it STAT!

  7. This is one of those books I've been meaning to read since it came out, but I never got around to do it. Every single thing I heard about it was great, so I'm really excited to finally read it. Mile and Tate's romance sounds amazing, and I'm always intrigued to see how those "only sex arrangements" work out. Great review Eileen!

  12. I totally agree! This book was really emotional and while I liked Tate I wish she would have stood up for herself more. Miles pov I really didn't like because I wanted to know what his thoughts in the present with Tate were. None the less, CoHo writes beautifully. Great review Eileen!
