Goodreads Summary:
New York Times bestselling author Maria V. Snyder wowed readers with Poison Study, the unforgettable story of poison taster Yelena. Now she's back with a new tale of intrigue.
Once, only her own life hung in the balance.
Oddly enough, when Yelena was a poison taster, her life was simpler. But she'd survived to become a vital part of the balance of power between rival countries Ixia and Sitia. Now she uses her magic to keep the peace in both lands and protect her relationship with Valek.
Suddenly, though, they are beset on all sides by those vying for power through politics and intrigue. Valek's job - and his life - are in danger. As Yelena tries to uncover the scope of these plots, she faces a new challenge: her magic is blocked. She must keep that a secret - or her enemies will discover just how vulnerable she really is - while searching for who or what is responsible for neutralizing her powers.
Yes, the days of tasting poisons were much simpler. And certainly not as dangerous.

Loved the Study series. YES more of Yelena and Valek!!!!
What are you guys waiting on this week?
Is this a spinoff then? O.o I hope you'll enjoy, Eileen!
ReplyDeleteI'd say it's more a continuation of Yelena's story! But starts off on a new foot so to speak!
DeleteThanks Joy and Jessica for explaining :) It sounds to me like it's a new adventure but with the characters from the Study series :)
DeleteYes! I am so excited for this one but I am confused about why this isn't book four instead of one of a whole new series. Unless it is set in a different place with the same characters? I don't know but it doesn't matter because we get Yalena and Valek again!
ReplyDeleteIt's a new series because it just starts a new "journey" or "adventure" for Yelena and everyone else! It's in the same countries, Ixia and Sitia. But it takes place after the events of the Glass books. I believe it's 8 years after the events of the Study books!
DeleteWow 8 years! So jealous you're already reading it but thanks for clarifying Jess! Yay for more Yelena and Valek~~
Deletei need to read a maria v. snyder book. i haven't yet. happy reading :)
ReplyDeletehope you can stop by my WoW Post.

OOohhh you should!! I LOVE Maria's books! Her Study series may be hard to find, because there's only so many copies left. Word is that once all the sellers are empty--or something like that--new covers will be issued for the Study books!
DeleteYes definitely read the Study series! One of my all time favourites! And thanks for the update Jessica! I'm excited for some new covers and possibly buying a physical set for myself :D

DeleteI hot this ARC on NetGalley. I can't wait to read it.
ReplyDeleteSo lucky!! Happiest reading!!
DeleteYAY, I can't wait to read Shadow Study! From reading the comments above, I'm guessing it's probably best to read the Glass series first? (Eep, more books for the TBR!) Either way, I can't wait to continue on with Yelena and Valek's story :D
ReplyDeleteI haven't read the Glass series either but I think there are characters from there that will pop up in the new books so it's safer to just read that series too. I can't get enough of Maria's writing anyways ;)
